Karnataka HC Issues Notice In The Case Concerning Bangalore Riots

The division bench comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Shreenivas Oka and Justice Ashok S Kinagi of the Karnataka High Court have issued a notice in the pleas filed in case of Bangalore Riots as a protest against the alleged Facebook comment which was posted against Prophet Mohammed.

The first petition sought to invoke the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)and the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA). Further, the transfer of investigation to the National Investigation Agency was sought by the petitioners. The delay in filing the complaint with the police was also questioned in the petition. The second petition also sought to transfer the case to NIA or any other Central Investigation agency.

The Hon’ble Court has issued directions to the state government to submit all the records and reports relating to the investigation. It was further stated that the Court’s Registry has consulted retired Justice PGM Pail and retired Justice KN Phaneendra seeking consent to appoint Claims Commissioner. The matter will be heard on August 28.
