Supreme Court Issues Notice Highlighting Malpractices By Private Hospitals In COVID-19 Treatment

The applicant whose father got admitted to private hospitals requested to intervene in the Supreme Court against the malpractices by private hospitals in treating COVID-19 patients.

The applicant mentioned that he personally being aggrieved by the action and therefore wants the Supreme Court to intervene. Therefore, the applicant has made certain recommendations before the Supreme Court.

  •   Framing of guidelines for the availability of beds, plasma donors and record of patients being admitted and discharged
  •   If any hospital refuses to admit the patient they shall record the reason in writing for the same
  •   Monitoring committees should be set up in each district to make reports of hospitals, records of bills, scrutinize bills with artificial intelligence
  •  Doctors, staffs benefits should be fixed so that prevent these hospitals from extra charging from these patients

The Bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde with Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian took notice of this application and will hear the matter after fifteen days.

Apart from this the court also asked the Centre to issue directions to the state under the Disaster Management Act so that COVID-19 treatment so that the patients who cannot afford do not remain untreated.
